A little less than three months after the release of the facelifted 2009 Mercedes-Benz SL-class, Merc aftermarket tuning specialists BRABUS has just released images of their tuning kit for the flagship roadster.
Specialist Mercedes tuner BRABUS has wasted no time at all in introducing a customisation program for the recently face-lifted SLK roadster, in particular, the fire-breathing AMG version which is upgraded with a 6.1-litre V8 BRABUS tweaked engine (up from the standard 5.5-litre V8 mill) plus a new aerodynamic bodykit to go with it.

Toyota FT-HS Concept

Toyota was next, and had one of the best exhibits from a "cor blimey!" point of view. Though virtually identical to its Sydney Motor Show stand, there were several cars mounted in the walls, giving the exhibit a real Gulliver's feel.

The major model launches were the new TRD Hilux, which outputs 225kW of power thanks to a supercharged 4.0-litre V6 engine. Another big model that will attract crowds was the FT-HS sports car, or the 'Prius on Steroids' as Toyota coined it. This 300kW monster is already being touted the next generation Toyota Supra.

BMW M1 Hommage concept

BMW M1 Hommage concept is one of the most interesting concepts we have seen in a while. We really hoped that we can see that actual car soon on a major car show. Sadly according to AutoTelegraaf BMW has no intention of producing M1 concept so it could compete with other supercars such as Audi R8, Porsche 911 and upcoming Mercedes performance models.

Why? Instead of focusing energy on supercars BMW is going to focus on green technologies said Klaus Draeger, board member of BMW and the man in charge for EfficientDynamics.

So the company who has been producing M-series cars that are called “Ultimate Driving Machines” is now concentratic more in hybrids and other green power models.

Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart 2009

“Factory rice” rides are always a conundrum. On the one hand, they’re rife with unabashed cheesiness: grotesque rims, offensive exhaust notes, a prominent wing and assorted cladding. Yet they’re too expensive for the teen tuners at which they seem targeted. So who’s buying these augmented econoboxes? Guys like me: 28-year-olds torn between adolescent rebellion and conformist careerism. So, can Mitsubishi’s entry in this semi-nihilist Nipponese niche, the Lancer Ralliart, fulfill the existentially-challenged man-child’s need for wheels?
Externally, there’s no mistaking this car’s appearance. A huge, gaping maw at the front kicks-off the theme of exaggeration continued in the hood vents, body skirt and (of course) rather large wing. So yes, it’s ugly. On the other hand, it’s ugly. The base Lancer, already designed with a pitched forward stance and frowning headlights, looks positively aggressive given the Ralliart treatment– a kind of Japanese answer to Chevrolet’s Cobalt SS. A bit too “2 Fast 2 Furious.” But that’s the point.

As a souped-up Lancer, the Ralliart’s interior reproduces many aspects of its donor’s design. Unfortunately, that isn’t a great thing. While there are welcome upgrades– paddle shifters and a leather-wrapped wheel and shifter– the rest of the Lancer’s pedestrian interior is left largely untouched. The radio (sans Nav) presents an ugly interface sprawled out over a convex dash, giving it an air of Trisomy-21. Meanwhile, the HVAC– nestled in a concave, silver strip below the radio– is split into three plain round knobs. It’s not a unified design. The dreariness is not limited to the center stack; the rest of the cabin is awash with hard, unrelenting, black plastics that have become the norm in these cost-conscious times.

Ford Falcon XR6 Turbo 2009

The new FG Ford Falcon has been unveiled in Australia, and it comes in three rim levels: the baseline XT, the G and the top of the range sporty XR. Other than the different exterior kit that each trim level comes with, the biggest difference between the cars is under the hood.
The baseline Ford Falcon XT comes equipped with a 4.0 liter normally aspirated inline-6 producing 261 horsepower and 391Nm of torque, mated to a 5-speed automatic gearbox with sequential manual shifting, or an optional ZF 6-speed automatic. The other engine option is an LPG engine that produces 209 horsepower mated to a 4-speed auto, likely to be the choice of Australian taxis.

The Ford Falcon G is pretty much the same as the XT with the 5-speed, except it has the G series front bumper, fog lamps, 17 inch wheels and a more luxurious interior. The suspension is also tuned for a sportier drive compared the more comfort oriented suspension of the XT. The Falcon G6E adds the ZF 6-speed gearbox and more interior luxuries like Bluetooth mobile phone integration, a premium audio and DVD system, leather seats, power driver seat and dual-zone climate control.

The top of the range G is the Falcon G6E Turbo which features a turbocharged inline-6 engine producing 363 horsepower at 5,250rpm and 533Nm of torque between 2,000rpm and 4,750rpm, mated to a 6-speed ZF automatic. The G6E Turbo also has iPod integration with its audio system.

The Ford Falcon XR series comes in either XR6, XR6 Turbo or XR8 trims. The XR6 features the normally aspirated inline-6 with similiar gearbox options as the XT, but you also get a Tremec 6-speed manual option. The XR6 Turbo shares the G6E Turbo’s turbocharged engine, but adds a limited slip differential. The top of the range XR8 has a normally aspirated 5.4 liter Ford Boss V8 that produces 389 horepower at 5,750rpm and 520Nm of torque at 4,750rpm.

So the performance Falcon enthusiast will be quite spoilt for choice really, on one hand you get a delicious sounding normally aspirated V8, but on the other hand a mega large and wide torque curve inline-6, and they both make about the same power and twisting action, just delivered differently. Being a Falcon and for the Australian market, the car is naturally large and rear wheel driven.

2009 Cobra Nissan GT-R new impression

Nissan today announced that the all-new Nissan GT-R supercar is now available for pre-ordering at 691 officially certified Nissan dealers across the United States. The 2009 Nissan GT-R, equipped with a 480-horsepower, twin-turbo 3.8-liter V6 engine and advanced 6-speed dual clutch automatic transmission, has a Manufacturers Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) of $69,850 for the GT-R and $71,900 for the GT-R Premium model (exclusive of Destination & Handling). Customer deliveries of the new GT-R are scheduled to begin in June 2008.

The Land Rover LRX - New Concept from Land Rover

The Land Rover LRX is set for a big Detroit debut next month, but you can see it now thanks to German enthusiast mag Auto Motor und Sport. They have thoughtfully posted a full photo gallery of the shortened, lowered Land Rover Freelander-based coupe concept, and thanks to the broken English provided by Google Translate, we can report some of the highlights, as well. The compact SUV boasts long doors and an athletic stance accentuated by a sloping roof, 20 "wheels, and a somewhat sinister looking front fascia. The cabin takes on a 2 +2 configuration, decorated in typical never-see-production concept trim. The shifter is mounted at the top part of the center console, with a fancy metal central controller for the four-wheel-drive positioned further down.

The attached photos show network ambient lighting in the cabin. That indicates that the car is in sport driving mode. Based on the Auto Motor und Sport piece, our understanding is that the same lighting glows green during off-road use and blue in standard mode. Technical and powertrain details are not spelled out clearly, but the final paragraph of the translated article mentions (we think) that if the LRX were to make the transition to production, it would likely be built ATOP the Focus architecture and incorporate a hybrid drivertrain with an electric motor on the rear axle.
